Taif is where the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) went seeking support after the death of his uncle Abu Talib, and where he was met with rejection and stoning before making his well-known du'a of patience. It is also the resting place of his cousin Abdullah ibn Abbas, a leading early scholar of Islam.
Beyond its history, Taif sits at a much cooler elevation than Makkah, known for its roses, grapes and honey. A private taxi makes the mountain road comfortable and lets you take in the sites at your own pace before heading back.
